    We are seeking a bilingual, creative, feminist and socially conscious communications professional who can transform information into powerful narratives and visual products, while also supporting donor engagement and fundraising efforts.

    Position overview

    The Communications & Donor Engagement Specialist is responsible for leading SERniña/REALgirl’s communications, marketing and branding strategy while providing strategic support to fundraising initiatives.

    Priority areas of the role:

    • Primary Focus: Communications & Graphic Design (with English proficiency (written and spoken)

    • Secondary Focus: Fundraising Support and Donor Engagement.

    This role is ideal for a communications specialist who excels at storytelling, visual strategy, and relationship-building and who understands that strong communications are foundational to sustainable fundraising.

    Role Objective

    To design, produce, and execute high-quality bilingual communications that elevate SERniña/REALgirl’s global presence, strengthen donor engagement, and support revenue-generation strategies through compelling storytelling and visual coherence.

    Role Distribution

    50% - Communications & Graphic Design (Primary Priority)
    50% - Fundraising Support & Donor Relations (Secondary, but strategic)

    (Note: This is not a sales-driven fundraising role. Instead, the position strengthens fundraising through communications, donor experience, and partnership stewardship.)

    Key Responsibilities

    Communications & Graphic Design (Primary)

    • Lead the planning and execution of SERniña’s communications strategy.

    • Create compelling digital and print materials aligned with institutional branding.

    • Manage social media channels in English and Spanish.

    • Produce newsletters, blogs, and website content.

    • Capture and curate stories from programs through photography, videos, interviews, and field visits.

    • Ensure visual and narrative consistency across all platforms.

    • Develop communication assets for campaigns, reports, and donor engagement.

    • Support the creation of the Annual Report and other strategic publications.

    Fundraising Support & Donor Relations (Secondary Priority)

    • Support the execution of fundraising campaigns through strategic communications.

    • Manage donor stewardship processes, including thank-you communications and recognition initiatives (e.g., padrino programs).

    • Help design the donor journey to improve retention and engagement.

    • Assist in growing the monthly donor base.

    • Provide follow-up and relationship support for individual donors and major contributors.

    • Collaborate in building alliances that expand SERniña/REALgirl’s network of supporters.

    • Contribute communication materials for grant proposals and donor reports as assigned.

    Candidate Profile

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Graphic Design, Marketing, Journalism, or related field.

    • Proven experience in communications and visual content production.

    • Strong portfolio required.

    • Experience working with nonprofits or social impact organizations is highly desirable.

    Critical Requirements

    • Fluent English (written and spoken) and exceptional writing and synthesis abilities.

    • Advanced graphic design and content creation skills.

    • Strong knowledge of communication platforms including but not limited to: Meta, LinkedIn, Squarespace and Mailchimp

This role ensures that SERniña/REALgirl communicates with clarity, professionalism, and emotional resonance while building meaningful relationships with the donors who make our work possible. 

    Logistical Information

    • Modality: On-site

    • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

    • Location: Jocotenango, Guatemala

    • Reports to: Development Coordination (Guatemala) and REALgirl Leadership (U.S.)

    • Salary: Q8,500  monthly.
